CAR T Cell Therapy
Comprehensive protocols with novel therapies, conventional therapies and alternative therapies.
- What is CAR T cell therapy
A personalized cancer treatment using your own immune cells
CAR T cell therapy is an advanced form of immunotherapy that uses a patient’s own T cells to recognize and attack cancer cells.
Unlike conventional chemotherapy, which works throughout the body, CAR T cell therapy is designed to give the immune system a more specific target. A patient’s T cells are collected from the blood, genetically modified in a specialized laboratory to carry a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR), expanded to increase their number, and then returned to the patient.
For some people with difficult-to-treat or relapsed cancers, CAR T cell therapy can provide another treatment option when standard therapies are no longer working or when available options are limited.
China has become an important center for CAR T cell research and clinical development, with multiple approved CAR T products and a broad range of clinical programs targeting both blood cancers and solid tumors.
At Gene Medical, we help international patients access advanced CAR-T cell therapy in China by coordinating care with leading hospitals, hematologists, and cell therapy centers.
- Treatment process
How CAR T cell therapy works
CAR-T therapy is a personalized treatment process involving several carefully controlled steps.
Step 1: T-Cell Collection
The patient’s T cells are collected from the blood through a procedure called leukapheresis.
Step 2: Genetic Modification
In a specialized laboratory, the T cells are genetically engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) that allows them to recognize specific cancer antigens, such as CD19 or BCMA.
Step 3: Cell Expansion
The modified CAR-T cells are multiplied to reach the required therapeutic dose.
Step 4: CAR-T Cell Infusion
After receiving lymphodepleting chemotherapy, the patient is infused with the CAR-T cells, which then seek out and attack cancer cells in the body.
- Treatable conditions
Which cancers can be treated?
CAR T cell therapy has been most extensively developed for blood cancers, particularly certain B-cell malignancies.
Depending on the specific product and treatment program, potential indications may include:
- Multiple myeloma
- Large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL)
- Follicular lymphoma (FL)
- Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL)
- B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL)
- Non-hodgkin lymphoma (NHL)
- Gastric cancer
- Gastroehophageal junction cancer
- Glioblastoma
- Glioma
- T-cell lymphoma
- T-cell leukemia
Importantly, not every CAR T product is approved for every cancer, and some treatments remain available only through clinical trials or specific treatment programs. Eligibility depends on the patient’s diagnosis, tumor characteristics, previous treatment history, and other medical factors.
- Eligibility
Who may be considered for CAR T cell therapy?
CAR T cell therapy is not suitable for everyone. Doctors usually consider several factors, including:
- Exact cancer diagnosis and subtype
- Specific tumor or cell-surface markers
- Previous treatments and response to those treatments
- Whether the disease has relapsed or become refractory
- Current disease status and tumor burden
- Blood cell counts
- Liver, kidney, heart, and other organ function
- Presence of active infections
- Previous transplant or cellular therapies
- Overall medical condition
For some patients, CAR T cell therapy may be an approved treatment. For others, a clinical trial or another advanced therapy may be more appropriate. A medical review is therefore an important first step before making plans to travel for treatment.

CAR T cell therapy in China
China has developed a large CAR T cell therapy ecosystem, including approved products, specialized treatment centers, cell-processing facilities, and ongoing clinical research.
For international patients, access can involve more than simply finding a treatment. Medical records may need to be translated and reviewed, eligibility may need to be confirmed, and appointments, treatment scheduling, travel arrangements, and communication with the medical team all need to be coordinated.
Our role is to help international patients navigate this process and communicate with appropriate medical institutions in China.
We can assist with medical record coordination, preliminary treatment inquiries, hospital communication, appointment arrangements, translation and interpretation, visa-related support, transportation, accommodation, and other practical aspects of the treatment journey.
Gene Medical is a medical care facilitator, not a hospital or treating provider. Treatment decisions are made by the patient’s medical team, and treatment payments are made directly to the relevant hospital or medical provider.

What can international patients expect?
- Medical record submission
- Specialist review
- Treatment planning
- Travel to China
- Evaluation
- T cell collection
- CAR T-cell manufacturing
- Lymphodepletion
- CAR-T infusion
- Post-treatment monitoring
- Follow-up
The exact treatment schedule varies considerably depending on the cancer, CAR T product, treatment center, and individual patient.
The time required in China can vary. Some patients may need several weeks or longer depending on the treatment protocol, manufacturing process, recovery, and follow-up requirements.
We help patients understand the process before they travel so they can make informed arrangements with their families and medical team.
- Potential side effects
CAR T cell therapy is not without risks
CAR T cell therapy is an advanced treatment, but it can also cause significant side effects.
Some patients develop cytokine release syndrome (CRS), which can cause fever, low blood pressure, breathing difficulties, and other symptoms. Immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) can also occur and may cause confusion, speech difficulties, seizures, or other neurological symptoms.
Other possible complications include infections, prolonged low blood cell counts, and reduced levels of normal B cells or immunoglobulins with certain therapies.
These risks are why CAR T cell therapy should be administered and monitored by an experienced medical team with appropriate facilities and emergency support.
- Plan your treatment now
Could CAR T cell therapy be an option for you?
If you or a family member has relapsed or difficult-to-treat cancer and you are exploring CAR T cell therapy in China, the first step is to understand whether an appropriate treatment is available and whether you may meet the medical criteria.
You can send us your available medical records for an initial review and treatment inquiry. We will help organize the information and communicate with appropriate medical institutions in China.
CAR T cell therapy is a complex treatment. The right starting point is a careful medical evaluation—not a promise of treatment or outcome.
